WHO IS THE REGULAR ATX VOTER?

IT’S YOU. AND ME.

Regular ATX Voter is an independent, one-person-run website that provides objective data, non-partisan information, and evenhanded analysis about election ballot measures for voters in Austin, Texas.

I started this website for selfish reasons. I wanted to make an informed choice on election day about a local issue on the ballot, but I felt like I couldn’t trust any of the information I was finding online. Either the information was being peddled by groups fighting for one side, lacked nuance and depth, or left me feeling like I still couldn’t make an informed choice.

I realized that lots of regular voters like me must feel the same way. We don’t want to spend all our time thinking about local government and politics, but we also don’t want to be chumps.

I have a passion for research, and if I was going to do the research for myself anyway, I figured: Why not share my work with other people? And so this website was born.

I take the responsibility to be transparent, neutral, and ethical very seriously, especially because it’s no longer just me who’s consuming this research. I have my own biases and policy preferences, but my promise to you is that I’ll try my best to set them aside for this website. This website will never endorse a position or candidate. It isn’t funded by anyone except myself. I’m not a politician or a member of city government. I’m just a regular Austin resident.

Although I have expertise in government and law—I went to a so-called “top” law school myself—nothing on this website should be taken as legal advice. I’ll cite all my sources so that you can research things yourself. I’ll tell you what I don’t know. I’ll tell you when I’m uncertain about something. I’ll show my work.

I hope you find this website useful!

Yours,

Regular ATX Voter
